If the FortiGate is configured for central management, it will look for FortiGuard services on the configured FortiManager system. The FortiGate sends its serial number to the FortiGuard service provider, which then determines whether the FortiGate is registered and has valid contracts for FortiGuard subscriptions and FortiCare support services.
